Rare and Impressive Antique Elizabethan Vellum Document

This is a rare decorative antique document from the Elizabethan period. It is an Exemplification of Recovery document, which is a legal document dealing with a common law recovery of land and or property. This is written in latin, and comes with a partial translation. The proceedings seem to have taken place in Westminster, but are dealing with land and property in Oxfordshire around the villages of North Stoke, Mongewell and Ipsden. They are all south of Oxford and close to the River Thames. Several names are mentioned including a Richard Pykeryng and Roger Knyght. The document is dated 3rd July 1566, that is almost 460 years ago. Importantly it still retains about one third of the great seal of Elizabeth I in wax, still attached to the vellum tag. The document has been folded for many hundreds of years, but it could be flattened and carefully framed. It would also make a great translation project for someone. Dealer Code: 1937.
