Description

This is a rare 19th century letter written by Sir Robert Graham who was a judge. He had sentenced two men to be executed for highway robbery in 1820 at Aylesbury Assizes, The letter was written in 1821 to his Lordship's asking for clemency and to commute the sentence to transportation. The two men convicted were James Attaway and Thomas Colville. They had stolen two £1 notes and a canvas bag belonging to John Wear of Hampshire. We do not know if his request was successful or not.
