My Novel

Getting away from it all, that's what Camping is all about. The one good thing about getting older is you know where all the good camping spots are. I started camping when I was a young Boy Scout in elementary school where I made it to a Star Scout by the time I was 16. Wanting to be able to take care of myself in the wilderness was my main objective then but now it's just pouring the freshly brewed campfire Coffee.

California is an outstanding place to find out of the way places and before I was an adult I had camped almost every where in the state.  Once I got my driver's license and my car I was free to go camping anywhere I chose, but it could only be on the weekend because I had to be back to work on Monday. Working didn't stop me from exploring though and me and my friends were going fairly often to camp. It was nice to get away from it all on those weekends and I always felt my best after waking up in the morning to a new day and plenty to check out. My camping mornings are always ones around the camp stove for some food and talk, there's nothing more relaxing than being around the campstove just after I get out of my sleeping bag. Then comes the Coffee!

You name the camp in California and I've probably been there for a day or two. I have one favorite campground, Malakoff Diggings, in the Sierra Foothills where they used to mine for gold years ago. One time I gave my landlord a 30 day notice just so I could go camping there for a few weeks. Those were the days. I spent the time searching the old miners trails and the mines and even found a secluded creek that still had some Gold at the bottom. The grocery store was twenty-five miles away and I made my weekly trips there to get supplies and the rest of the time I just camped!

One of my support groups here used to go camping once a year and it was fun but it's been some time since we went, they lost the agreement to use some vacant ranger station down south. One of my goals is to get the camping started again using money from recycled cans and bottles to fund the trip, that's the way they used to do it. We haven't talked about reviving the camping yet but next time we do I'm going to suggest my favorite campground. I know there are a lot of folks who want to go.

Camping is everyone's sport so don't be shy ask someone if they want to go and Let's go camping!
