Description

Original Late 19th Century Antique Italian White Marble Bust of a Lady by Aristide Louis Fontana (active between 1870 and 1890). Known for his classical style, this is of the finest quality. Signed on the back 'A Fontana'. The woman's face is beautifully modelled and is happy, with so much detail to the flowing hair and to the eyes. Her top just over one shoulder, creating a rather sensual image. The marble socle is separate for easier movement, and the bust just fits on top easily. The condition is very good with some age wear and minor chips, there is a small old repair in the hair (see photos). Would look superb on a pedestal, in an alcove or on a deep window sill. Circa late 19th Century.
