Description

A fine and rare set of six antique George III 1770's buttons. Made from steel and carved mother of pearl. Each button with steel rims and a flower carved mother of pearl centre. The back of each with a loop to attach to a gentlemen's garment. They come in a cardboard box with old lettering on the top, which states these buttons were worn by John Loveday on his white coat on his wedding day in October 1777 at Wardington. We can confirm that a John Loveday did in fact get married on the 7th October 1777 to Ann Taylor Loder at Wardington, Oxfordshire. John Loveday (1742-1809) was the son of John Loveday an antiquarian, book and picture collector. John Loveday junior assisted Dr Chandler in Oxford with his publication Marmora Oxoniensia in 1763. The book is about the Arundel Marbles which form part of the collection at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. Each button is 3.5cm by 3.5cm. Stock Code: 3085.
